…with the rise of ‘Social Networking’ in a virtual world, the goal of this seminar is to enable participants to develop skills to build meaningful relationships and a greater sense of trust and community in the real (offline) world.

Part 1 - Diagnosis

 

  • Establish the importance of relationships
  • Highlight the differences and importance of real/3D (as opposed to virtual/2D) relationships.
  • Challenge entire cultural value system of; Individuality/Immediacy/Entitlement/Selfishness/Consumerism/Pleasure/Pain avoidance.
  • Investigate why we are rapidly becoming socially deficient as a culture? -
  • The influence of negative experience (fractured families, bullying) lack of exposure to the positive, and technology/marketing as an accelerant not a cause.
  • Social mapping exercise involving friends, family and community.
  • Worksheet providing lattice for them to add vines (The debrief is all about how to develop existing and new connections into 3D relationships)


Part 2 - Prognosis

  • Understanding the nature and value of relationships.
  • Recognising the ways in which 2D (online) and 3D relationships (face to face) differ.
  • Learning and implementing the skills required to start new friendships.
  • Thinking through how they improve the depth of the friendships with those they know.
  • Recognising the internal perceptions of how they view their relationships in a family context.
  • Developing practical skills to connect more effectively with their family members
  • Discovering effective ways to build real relationships within their communities.
